Memory Monday: Bard on the Beach

Bard on the Beach - A Midsummer's Night Dream

A year ago today, I sat under the white & red tents at Vanier Park, and watched Shakespeare’s A Midsummer’s Night Dream of Bard on the Beach. I will never tire of watching this play. It has always been one of my favourites: a world of magical fairies, young lovers, and the ludicrous shenanigans that happen when tricks are played. Puck always stands out to me as the most bold, most daring, and most playful fairy. I loved Bard on the Beach’s rendition of A Midsummer’s Night Dream, with each character’s distinctive characters shining through, and the inclusion of several cultural references from today’s world weaved into their script. It’s also just so fun to see male actors dressed up in goth/steampunk fashion with full-on corsets, tutu’s and black eyeliner. Love it.

Pictured above is Puck (actor Kyle Rideout) and I, in a scene where he jumps into an audience member’s lap (mine) and snaps a selfie. This was definitely the highlight of the night. Thanks Puck 🙂
